Censoring Love

BRIEF:

This is a proactive idea we came up with for Stonewall to let people know that it's still illegal to be LBGT in 76 countries around the world, sometimes it’s even punishable by death.

Truth:

Love songs will always be a popular genre of music. Billboard Magazine analysed the top 100 hits between 1960 and 2014 and showed over 10,000 songs talked about ‘love’. But for around 2.8 billion people love is outlawed. The governments of these nations treat LGBT love in the same way they treat obscene material, like something that needs to be censored.

IDEA:

Show people how obscene it is to outlaw love. We want to literally censor the word ‘love’ for a day by partnering with a radio station and Spotify to raise awareness for this issue. On 17 May, International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia day, the word love will be bleeped out in all songs and broadcasts and treated as if it’s an offensive word.
